Police Identify Victims From Fatal July 4th Crash In Middle Island/Yaphank; Go Fund Me Account Set Up For Victims
Yaphank – The driver of the 2014 Nissan Altima involved in the two-vehicle crash in front of 275 Yaphank-Middle Island Road near the Middle Island Country Club on July 4th, has been identified as Chandan Gavai, 38, of Middle Island.
Gavai’s father, Kamalnayan Gavai, 74, and mother, Archana Gavai, 60, were also killed in the crash. Kamalnayan and Archana Gavai are residents of India and were visiting the United States.
Chandan Gavai’s wife, Manisha Surwade, 32, remains in critical condition at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.
The 11-month-old baby injured in the crash is the son of Manisha and Chandan and remains hospitalized at Stony Brook University Hospital.
CBS television news affiliate Channel 2 News is reporting that the driver of the pickup truck who allegedly caused the accident, had a blood-alcohol level which was well over the legal limit.
A Go Fund Me account has been set up for Manisha and her child. As of 5:45 PM on Wednesday evening, close to $19,000 of the $300,000 goal had been raised. https://www.gofundme.com/2czk3bra
