Small Business In Brookhaven Town; The Little Red Farm Stand At Corwin Farms In Middle Island
Middle Island – Summer means fresh vegetables and in Brookhaven Town, farm stands with locally-grown produce can be found in just about every hamlet.
In Middle Island, Corwin Farms’ Little Red Farm Stand, located at 271 Yaphank Middle Island Road offers fresh vegetables along with pork, chicken, eggs and honey, all grown and raised, locally.
Just north of the Middle Island Country Club, Tim Corwin and Dana Behr are in their fourth year of farming in Middle Island. Tim, originally from Aquebogue, and Dana, originally from Cutchogue are no strangers to farming and come from two North Fork farm families. Tim’s family can be traced back to some of the original settlers in 1640 who began farming on the East End.
The farm is truly family-owned and run. The couple work the farm themselves with a focus on retail sales at the farm stand. “The labor shortage keeps us in retail here at the stand, as opposed to wholesale”, said Tim at his farm on Friday afternoon.
Tim and Dana also sell their vegetables at local farmer’s markets in Rocky Point and Hampton Bays on weekends.
Throughout the summer season, they grow pretty much all of the vegetables you would expect to find at farm stands on Long Island including carrots, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and the holy grail of summer vegetables – sweet corn.
The Little Red Farm Stand is open every day. Monday through Saturday, their hours are 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. On Sunday they close at 5:00 p.m.
Avoid the traffic on the East End this summer and support small business and your local farmers in Brookhaven Town. They work hard, for you and you won’t have to wait on a long line.
