Supervisor Romaine And Councilwoman Bonner Thank Staff And Volunteers At Dress For Success’ 5000th Client Reception

Farmingville – On July 26, Supervisor Ed Romaine (right) and Councilwoman Jane Bonner (front row, left) thanked the staff and volunteers from the Town’s Dress for Success Boutique at a reception to celebrate their 5000th client, who visited the boutique on July 7th.

Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help clients find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work.

In 1999, Brookhaven was the first affiliate to be established as part of the worldwide non-profit organization.

Supervisor Romaine said, “Dress for Success plays such an important role by empowering women and opening the doors of opportunity. I commend the staff and volunteers for their commitment to improve the quality of life for every client who walks through their doors.”

“The women who come to the boutique are looking for a hand up, not a hand out,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “Dress for Success is more than just clothing. It’s a place where women can take advantage of a support network and career development tools to help them succeed in the workplace and in their daily lives.”

The women served by Dress for Success Brookhaven come from across Long Island. They are job ready women who have been referred by over 250 local non-profit organizations; including domestic violence agencies, veteran’s organizations, homeless shelters and job training programs. Dress for Success Brookhaven is sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven Department of Housing and Human Services, Division of Women’s Services.

The Dress for Success Boutique is located at Brookhaven Town Hall, One Independence Hill in Farmingville. It is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on selected Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  All client visits are by appointment only.
