Mount Kisco Man Dies During Triathlon At Smith Point Park On Sunday Morning
Shirley – Suffolk County Police responded to an incident during which an athlete died while competing in a triathlon in Shirley on Sunday morning.
Vincent Fleck was participating in the 500-meter swim portion of the Smith Point Sprint Triathlon in Narrow Bay when a lifeguard noticed Fleck was in distress. The lifeguard transported Fleck via a canoe to a Mastic Beach Fire Department rescue boat where an EMT began emergency First Aid.
Fleck, 69, of Mount Kisco, was then transported by Mastic Beach Ambulance Company to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.
It is unknown if Fleck drowned or if he suffered a medical event. An autopsy will be performed by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
