Paving Project Planned For William Floyd Estate; Visitor Entrance Temporarily Located On Washington Avenue

Mastic Beach – Fire Island National Seashore Superintendent Chris Soller announced today that Strategic Consulting Alliances has been awarded the contract for a paving project to improve visitor access at the William Floyd Estate. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, August 22 and is anticipated to be completed before Saturday, September 3. Visitor parking will be available via Washington Avenue.
“The paved roads and parking lot at the William Floyd Estate are getting a much needed makeover,” said Fire Island National Seashore Facility Manager Jim Dunphy. The $538,768 project, funded through National Park Service Transportation Funds, calls for new asphalt in the visitor parking lot and on paved roads at the Estate. Wheel stops and bollards will also be installed.
The project requires a temporary closure of the visitor parking lot and visitors will be rerouted to the service gate entrance located at 20 Washington Avenue in Mastic Beach, New York.
Three centuries of American history are preserved at the William Floyd Estate, the historic home of William Floyd. The Estate includes the 25-room Old Mastic House, 12 outbuildings, and more than 600 acres of forest, fields, marsh, and trails. Guided tours of the Old Mastic House are offered every half-hour from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Friday through Sunday and holidays. For more information call 631-399-2030.
