Stony Brook University Alleviates Move-In Day Jitters (For Parents) With A Fun-Filled Day Of Activities For Families
Stony Brook – Friday was “Move-In” Day for the incoming freshman class at Stony Brook University.
Roughly 2700 freshmen live on campus and leaving home for the college experience can be a challenge for both students, and parents.
The folks at Stony Brook University did their best to alleviate the trepidation for both on Friday. Arriving students and parents were met at the entrance to the University by Wolfie (the Seawolves’ mascot), and both, the cheer, and dance teams.
University President Samuel L. Stanley was even on-hand to roll up his sleeves and assist some of the freshmen with the move into their dorms.
A “Family Farewell BBQ” was held at the Staller Steps for families and students from noon until about 3:00 p.m., and attendees were treated to a performance by the Stony Brook Marching Band.
The student population has swelled in recent years at Stony Brook. Of the roughly 25,000 students, 10,000 or so live in campus housing. New dorms along with a new dining facility are nearing completion and will house over 700 students.
Over 2,000 attendees were on hand at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium to watch the Stony Brook men’s soccer team play Hofstra on Friday night. Then, on Saturday night, the school held its Convocation inside LaValle Stadium.
The freshmen will have an opportunity to showcase their school spirit on Thursday night when the Seawolves football team opens their season against the University of North Dakota at LaValle Stadium. (Tickets are still available!)
