Scooter Driver Killed In Collision With Pickup Truck In East Shoreham On Tuesday Afternoon
East Shoreham – Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad Detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed the driver of a scooter on Tuesday afternoon in East Shoreham.
Kenneth Staufer was operating a 2015 Dodge Ram westbound on North Country Road at 1:53 p.m., when a scooter heading eastbound crossed over the double yellow lines and struck Staufer’s pickup truck.
The driver of the scooter, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. His identification is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. Staufer, 45, of Shoreham, was not injured and remained at the scene.
Both the Dodge Ram and the scooter were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
