William Floyd Colonials To Battle Bay Shore In High School Football Playoffs
Mastic Beach – The William Floyd Colonials varsity football team just concluded a fantastic regular season with a thrilling 9-7 victory over Sachem North this past Saturday bringing them to 7-1, clinching the No. 2 seed in League I and earning the right to host two home playoff games. The playoffs kick off this Saturday at 2 pm as the Colonials host the No. 7 seeded Bay Shore Marauders.
“I am very proud of how our team played this year in the regular season coming within one point of finishing 8-0,” said Coach Longo, referring to a 22-21 overtime loss to No. 1 seeded Lindenhurst on a two-point conversion on the last play of the game. “We start the playoffs against a talented Bay Shore team in the quarterfinals. We will need to bring our ‘A’ game every playoff game as these are single-elimination contests.”
In addition to clinching the No. 2 seed, the Colonials have secured a Big 4 Championship, an award given to the top four teams in the division. This is also the 17th consecutive year that the Colonials have qualified for the playoffs, a monumental run that has included five Long Island Championships (2005, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2012) and nine Suffolk County Championships (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012).
