No stranger to the restaurant business in the area, Philip Donofrio of the Five Brothers group of area Italian restaurants, deli’s and pizza restaurants felt there was a need for a great burger place to serve the area. “You can only eat Chinese food and pizza so much when you don’t want to cook”, said Mr. Donofrio when discussing the development of the new concept.

Part food truck, part diner, and more of a drive up, GO BURGER serves up freshly made hamburgers, cheesesteaks, and chicken sandwiches. “Fresh”, being the operative word.

“Everything is fresh, daily”, said Phil’s wife Christine as she gave a tour of the kitchen. “Fresh meat and fresh rolls, daily”, she continued. “Everything is then made to order, including the fresh, hand cut fries which aren’t dropped until the customer orders them. Nothing sits”

The cheesesteaks are made with thin-sliced ribeye steaks, and topped with fresh vegetables, and GO BURGER is quickly getting a reputation for their amazing milkshakes. “We sold about 200 of them the other day”, said Christine. “Our customers love them!”

The milkshakes are made with ice cream produced by a local company, and more or less delivered on a daily basis.

The kitchen on wheels was designed from the ground up by Phil and a manufacturer in Tennessee. During the design process, the Donofrio’s were able to basically watch the plans come to life live, online as they spoke with the manufacturer. The bulk of the trailer was assembled in Tennessee, including the plumbing, wiring and cabinetry, and then Phil personally installed the top-of-the line industrial cooking equipment.

Both Phil and his wife Christine are graduates of Longwood High School and their family has been in the restaurant business in the area for many years. His father opened their first pizza restaurant in Middle Island over 35 years ago.

Based on the constant flow of customers over the course of the last week, Phil’s thoughts on a great alternative to existing local food offerings were spot on. “Once the windows go up, we start to get busy”, said Christine.

The food truck/trailer boasts two large windows for ordering and food pickup. You can actually see the cooking area and watch as orders are prepared and those hand cut, fresh fries are dropped and cooked until perfection.

The Donofrio’s hope to be able to add a couple of picnic tables for their customers down the road, and they will be open for business year-round.  They currently have five employees, and orders can be called in ahead of time.

The food is definitely worth a trip from anywhere within Brookhaven Town and GO BURGER is easy to get to. From the north and south, take William Floyd Parkway to Route 25 west, and it’s about a half-mile down on the south side, in the heart of the Ridge business district.
