80 William Floyd Student Artists Earned “Distinguished” Honor At NYSATA Portfolio Day
Mastic Beach – Last month, 80 William Floyd art students from grades five through 12 received the highest rating of “Distinguished” on their portfolios at the annual New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) Portfolio Project adjudication.

Sophomore Jennifer Suarez, a student in Erika Licausi’s class, won the top honor at the NYSATA show for a portrait of her brother done in color pencil. For her efforts, she was awarded a $200 prize.
To participate, students must be nominated by their teachers and then present their work before a professional artist for assessment and feedback. “The Portfolio Project is an authentic assessment tool that provides students with an opportunity to present their portfolios and demonstrate their understanding and success in the visual arts,” said Theresa Bianco, Chairperson, Visual Arts, William Floyd School District.
The students and their teachers were also invited to a Board of Education meeting to be recognized for their accomplishments. Congratulations to all the students and their teachers Erin Almeida, Marco Antenucci, Jillian Berner, Theresa Bianco, Linda Francis, Erica Licausi, Dale Luongo, Timothy Kosta, Susan Plunket and Stephanie Taisler!
