Stony Brook Medicine Named “Most Wired” For Eighth Consecutive Year
Stony Brook – Stony Brook Medicine has earned the ‘Most Wired®’ designation from the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum for the eighth consecutive year.
“Technology is a key component of healthcare delivery,” said Jim Murry, Chief Information Officer, Stony Brook Medicine. “At Stony Brook, we consider it one of the foundational ‘enablers’ driving our quest to reach the Top 10 percent in clinical outcomes, patient safety and the patient experience over the next three years.”
The Most Wired survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, is a leading industry barometer measuring information technology (IT) use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. In this year’s survey, 680 participants representing an estimated 2,146 hospitals nationwide participated.
The survey examines how organizations are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based healthcare in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management; quality and safety; and clinical integration.
According to this year’s survey, ‘Most Wired’ hospitals are using telehealth to fill gaps in care; provide services 24/7; and expand access to medical specialists. These hospitals are redefining the way that they provide care in their communities, using technology to build patient engagement with the individual’s lifestyle in mind, which includes electronic access to their care team.
“These Most Wired hospitals exemplify this transformation by harnessing technology, engaging patients and offering services remotely,” said Rick Pollack, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association. “And, removing policy and other barriers to telehealth will allow even faster adoption of these amazing technologies.”
