Running Game And Big Defensive Stops Lift Seawolves Over Towson
TOWSON, MD – Stony Brook football gained 205 yards on the ground led by 125 from junior RB Stacey Bedell and the defense made some key fourth quarter stops as the Seawolves earned a 27-20 CAA Football victory over Towson at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday night.
The win moved the Seawolves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Towson dropped to 1-4 and 0-3 in the league.
Scoring
- Stony Brook scored first when RB Stacey Bedell scored on a three-yard rush. The play capped an 11-play, 77-yard drive. Przemyslaw Popek‘s PAT was good.
- Towson tied the score with a 14-yard pass from QB Ellis Knudson to WR Andre Dessenberg. The play capped a six-play, 61-yard drive. The PAT by Aidan O’Neill was good.
- The Tigers broke the tie with a 23-yard field goal by Aidan O’Neill. The kick capped a six-play, 62-yard drive.
- Towson extended the lead with a two-yard passing touchdown from QB Ellis Knudson to TE Tanner Vallely. That play capped an eight-play, 66-yard drive.
- QB Joe Carbone scampered 12 yards for a rushing touchdown to open the second in the second half. The run capped an eight-play, 91-yard drive for the Seawolves. Przemyslaw Popek‘s PAT was good.
- Stony Brook retook the lead on a one-yard run by RB Jordan Gowins that capped a 13-play, 87-yard drive. Przemyslaw Popek‘s kick was no good.
- RB Stacey Bedell increased the Seawolves’ lead with a 23-yard run late in the fourth quarter. His second touchdown came two plays after DB Jaheem Woods‘ interception. Przemyslaw Popek‘s PAT was good.
- Towson completed the scoring with a 27-yard field goal by Aiden O’Neill that capped a nine-play, 42-yard drive.
The Numbers
- Stony Brook gained 370 yards of total offense on 64 plays. Towson had 406 yards of total offense on 65 plays.
- RB Stacey Bedell led the ground game with 125 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.
- RB Jordan Gowins added 62 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
- QB Joe Carbone was 15-for-23 for 165 yards passing.
- WR Ray Bolden had a team-high five receptions for 82 yards.
- DB Jaheem Woods collected 10 tackles and an interception. LB Shayne Lawless and DB Tyrice Beverette each recorded nine stops. Beverette also had an interception.

Notes
- RB Jordan Gowins, the Boston College transfer, scored on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter for his first touchdown as a Seawolf and his first collegiate touchdown.
- QB Joe Carbone scored his first rushing touchdown of the season in the third quarter. It was the fifth rushing touchdown of his career.
- RB Stacey Bedell scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, his sixth of the season and 19th of his career.
- Bedell reach 100 yard on the ground tonight, marking his second 100-yard game of the season and the 10th of his career. His 10 moves him into a tie for fourth-place on Stony Brook’s career 100-yard rushing games.
- Redshirt freshmen WR Andrew Trent started tonight’s game. His first career start.
- Freshman DL Jordan Scarbrough made his collegiate debut in tonight’s game.
- Captains tonight were WR Tim Keith, RB Stacey Bedell, DB Tyrice Beverette and DB Jaheem Woods.
